Plenary Address: Science and Nonduality Conference 2011
Oct 22, 2011 4:30pm
Location:
San Rafael, CA
Description:

In this talk Drew Dellinger will engage the topic of nonduality through the lenses of poetry, justice and cosmology. Drew will weave together insights, stories and poems that speak to our ontological oneness, the creativity of the cosmos, and the poetics of timelessness.
In addition, Dellinger will present the vision of radical connection in the work of Martin Luther King Jr. Though this aspect of King’s vision has often been overlooked, Drew will show that King was in fact a kind of early ‘systems thinker,’ with a proto-ecological vision of “the interrelated structure of all reality.” In King’s cosmology everything is connected and “the universe is on the side of justice.”
Drew will also touch on the nature of time and timelessness in poetry, and how poets use words to express the fractal nature of time, its transparency, and the brilliance of the present moment.

Living the New Story: Cosmology, Justice, Poetry and the Planet
To REGISTER: Click here.
or Call (831) 667-3005
The universe story is the divine story, the human story, the story of the trees, the story of the rivers, of the stars, the planets, everything.
– Thomas Berry
A new planetary movement is unfolding at the confluence where ecology, social justice and cosmology meet. At the heart of this emerging global movement is a vision of the world as sacred and connected. The entire Earth community is calling you to activate your creativity, and live your life as the embodied expression of connection and compassion.
This workshop will engage cultural issues of cosmology and justice. We will stretch our minds around the 13-billion-year history of the universe and the current movements for global justice and earth democracy. In addition, we will discover the poetic cosmos within us and around us, explore the joys of poetry and spoken word, and awaken the playful poet and wordsmith within. Imagination flows from the depths of the universe itself. Through writing exercises, listening to and sharing poetry, participants will celebrate the sacred cosmos of language, and cultivate inspiration for the creative process.
Our historical moment poses a challenge to the artist inside each of us: How can we bring forth our creativity in service of the planet, the people, and the future of all species?
No experience is needed, but all is welcome. Bring one or two of your favorite poems.

Drew will share insights, poetry and stories from his twenty years as a student and friend of Father Thomas.

Speech at the Parliament of the World's Religions
Dec 06, 2009
Location:
Melbourne, Australia
Description:

The New Planetary Narrative; Connecting Ecology, Social Justice and Cosmology
Environmental movements and struggles for social justice are converging, as we recognize the interrelated nature of our problems and the need for creative solutions. At the same time we begin to grasp the significance of cosmology—our worldview or 'cultural story'—and the role this plays, both in creating the current crisis and inspiring a new direction. A new planetary movement is unfolding at the confluence where ecology, social justice and cosmology meet. At the heart of this emerging global movement is a vision of the world as sacred and connected.
In this talk, Drew Dellinger will identify some core values common to ecology, social justice and cosmology, such as "personhood," which acknowledges the sacredness of every individual being, and community, which emphasizes the primacy of relationship.
Based on his years of study with prominent environmental thinker Thomas Berry, and his in-depth survey of the writings and sermons of Martin Luther King Jr., Dellinger will elucidate the underlying principles connecting ecology, cosmology and justice and describe strategies for change utilizing the power of story, the power of dream and the power of action.
