Passed by the site of the Battle of Culloden. After the Scottish defeat there, the English rulers banned the wearing of the kilt and tartan and the playing of the bagpipes… Reminds me of the enslavers in the Americas who outlawed the African drum. Trust this: colonizers and oppressors understand the power of art and culture; that’s why they aim straight at it. This is why it’s so important that we use the power of art to catalyze our movements for justice, ecology, compassion, equality, reverence, and love.
